Non phone data entry work from home jobs are in high demand. On average I find about ten to twenty data entry jobs a day when doing research and sharing them with my audience.

Data entry work is the process of manipulating data, deleting data, editing data, and transferring data from one medium to another. Data includes numbers and letters, utility bills and information, patient information, invoices, scanned photos, and other digital items that are compiled in one place.

Cash or Payment Posting

The cash and payment posting role requires that you either take the data from the invoices and post it to the company’s ledger or that you take the payments and match them to the customer’s account. There are other roles involved, but for the sake of simplicity, we will look at this role from that stand point. You most commonly see these types of roles in medical firms, lawyer firms, and some e-commerce brands.

Bookkeeping

A bookkeeper is a dedicated data entry specialist that prepares the information in the first few steps of the accounting cycle. This primarily involves matching transactions to accounts, tallying monthly monies that come in and out, and making sure the numbers reconcile with the bank statements. The bookkeeper profession is one that requires a knack for accuracy and numbers. Bookkeepers are required to do the data manipulating and administrative side of a business’s accounting before it is generated in the financial statements.

Excel Administrator

This role primarily focuses on your ability to find data within Excel as quickly as possible and either revise, delete, or add to it. When working in this role, it is best to know all the primary Excel shortcuts because this is a fast paced role. Excel is used to organize data into columns and rows so that computers and people who need the data can interpret it. Knowing the basics of Excel is a good hard skill for any data entry role and sticks out to most recruiters.

Data Specialist

This role is not to be confused with data engineers or data specialists who deal with SQL and Python. A data specialist is one of the interchangeable titles some companies use when naming positions; therefore, you should always go to the requirements and skills sections of these job posts to make sure they are not referring to a data engineer.

The data specialist role deals with the primary coordination of data which means you take the data from one medium to another or you use it to compile reports for the stakeholders or the company so that they can make projections and key decisions that affect the company.

Final Thoughts

The average pay for a data entry position is between $17 to $35 and depends solely on the company. Two software systems that are usually looked for on your resume by recruiters are Excel and Salesforce.

Even if you have not held a job that specifically had the phrase “data entry” in its title, you should still apply. Some basic examples of data entry include adding notes to a customer’s file after interacting with them, reconciling your cash drawer after your cashier shift, and even utilizing the broilers and hot drawers while working in the kitchen of your fast food job.
